Gentrifist really shows his capabilities with his debut EP, coining his original style as ‘Multicore’ we can’t help but agree! Whether he is creating atmospheric soundscapes or flat out hardcore kicks it all seems to flow into one seamless journey.
‘Mumwife’ starts the EP off with a gentle floating intro, before going straight into a huge crunchy neuro drop setting the vibe of things to come.
‘Tepid states’ follows with a haunting melancholic vibe, over a sub bass that even mala would wince at!
As it rolls into ‘My Gentle Fist’ things really switch up, a Soca sytle into drops straight into a halftime strut overlaid with amens with a sprinkling of hardcore, Gentrifist really shows his capabilities here, switching between different style effortlessly.
‘Prayer Matt’ follows slipping back into 140bpm, with a nod back to the dubstep golden era but revealing gentrifists breakcore influences with really tidy glitch edits.
Last but by no means least, we have the title track ‘Black Swan’ switching the tempo back to a half time neuro but with elements of Breakcore/Hardcore. It teases the 4x4 kick until dropping into a relentless hardcore assault on the last drop.
